Antiques Decorative (Sussex) has dated this Grand Tour Bronze Narcissus to the 1880s.

Finely modelled for its small scale, the bronze retains a pleasing dark brown patina with natural age-related variation and light surface wear.
The figure is mounted on a substantial black fossiliferous marble base, with attractive natural shell and fossil inclusions visible throughout the stone.

Bronzes of this type were produced in Naples during the later 19th century for Grand Tour travellers and collectors, inspired by the important archaeological discoveries at Pompeii and Herculaneum.
There is a visible transverse casting or assembly line to one thigh, believed to relate to the original manufacture rather than later accidental damage.

A particularly appealing small-scale Grand Tour bronze, ideal for a desk, library, study or cabinet collection.
