Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century English country chest of drawers is constructed from painted pine and finished in a distressed sage green colour. The case has a rectangular top with traditional moulding above an arrangement of two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, all fitted with decorative brass drop handles. The entire piece stands on shaped bracket feet, exhibiting surface wear to the paintwork that reveals the timber underneath. Measuring 90.5 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 49.5 cm deep, it provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining a compact footprint. In a contemporary home, this chest of drawers suits placement in a bedroom, landing, or hallway as a practical storage unit for clothing, linens, or household items. The traditional country style and muted green finish allow the chest to integrate naturally into rustic, eclectic, or period-inspired interiors, serving as both a functional surface and a characterful decorative accent against neutral or panelled walls.

FAQs

Traditional English painted chests of drawers typically date from the late 18th century onwards, featuring classic proportions such as two short drawers over three long drawers resting on bracket feet or a plinth base.

These pieces were generally constructed from softwoods like pine or native hardwoods like oak, assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints and finished with cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces show natural wear patterns around keyholes, drawer runners, and handles, alongside hand-planed drawer bottoms and paint layers exhibiting historical craquelure.

A painted chest serves as a functional storage piece in contemporary bedrooms or hallways, contrasting well with neutral wall treatments, modern artwork, and understated table lamps.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and apply clear beeswax paste sparingly to seal fragile paintwork without altering the original colour.
