Very Fine Mid 18th-Century George II Burr Walnut Chest on Chest (Tallboy) A superb and well proportioned mid 18th-century George II period burr walnut chest on chest, of outstanding original condition, colour and patina, circa 1740. The upper section, surmounted by a moulded cornice, is arranged as two short drawers over three graduated long drawers. Below, a moulded waist separates the lower section, fitted with a further three graduated long drawers, creating the classic “chest-on-chest” or tallboy form so prized in Georgian interiors. Each drawer front is finely veneered in beautifully figured, book matched burr walnut, with crossbanded borders and delicate cockbeaded edges. The sides are similarly veneered and crossbanded, underlining the quality of the piece from every angle. All drawers are oak lined, a hallmark of first rate 18th-century cabinetmaking.
