Description

Amy Barbaro (nee Amy Dawnon) (born Newcastle in 1867) married Giovanni Barbaro on the 10th December 1897 in Rome.

She was recorded as being an artist and he as being a retired courier.

Giovanni (1854-1915) was born in Italy and his Egyptian Paintings are highly regarded.

I was for many year thought that it was he who used the A (Arthur) Dudley pseudonym. (Hence the old label attached to the frame.) Latterly, research by family members reveal that it was Amy who used the name (Ranchi Art & Books).

She exhibited 8 times in the name of Arthur Dudley at the Royal Academy. She also Exhibited 3 times att the RBA and was mentioned in Whybrow's 1883-1900 List of Artists In and Around St Ives.

As her husband, she also painted Egyptian scenes under her own name, Amy Barbaro. A couple of these have been auctioned in the USA achieving $12,000.

She died in 1937 at the age of 70.

Well executed Still Life - a little very minor foxing. We acquired this painting from our now dead friend and painting restorer. He highly rated this picture.

Frame: 44cm or 17.35in high and 93.75cm or 38.5in wide

Painting Surround: for 26cm or 10.25in high and 76cm or 29.75in wide

Depth: 4.5cm or 1.75in
