A Sheraton Period Satinwood Inlaid Cabinet

Description

A magnificent Sheraton period satinwood inlaid side cabinet, of the highest quality. Fabulous, virtually flawless, original condition. The lower section, with colonnettes in projection at the corners finely carved and fluted, oval panelled doors.

The interior contains two adjustable shelves.

Size: 45.1/2" wide x 16" deep x 60" high

Sheraton period furniture, originating in late 18th-century Britain, is defined by Neoclassical restraint, slim geometric silhouettes, and delicate proportions. Cabinetmakers favoured figured light woods such as satinwood and tulipwood, adorned with marquetry, fan motifs, and subtle crossbanding rather than heavy relief carving.

Primary construction utilised imported West Indian or East Indian satinwood for veneers due to its shimmering grain.
