19th C Needlework and Hand Painted Silk Picture English, Circa 1830

An exceptional early 19th-century needlework picture demonstrating a remarkable level of technical skill and artistic accomplishment. Executed in a variety of threads and incorporating numerous intricate stitches, the work is enriched with hand painted silk details, particularly in the faces and flesh tones, creating a highly expressive and lifelike composition.

The scene depicts a rural labourer preparing to leave for the day's work, accompanied by his faithful dog. Pausing before his departure, he bids a tender farewell to his wife and young daughters, conveying a touching sense of family affection. The group stands before a picturesque cottage, with a birdcage hanging beside the doorway, while the parish church can be seen in the distance, completing the idyllic English countryside setting.

The picture remains housed in its original reverse-painted and gilt-glass mount together with its original black and gilt frame, all preserved in good condition. Notably, the needlework retains excellent colour throughout. There is a very small area of age-related damage to the silk near the church spire, which is scarcely noticeable and does not detract from the overall presentation.
