Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tall sides incorporate carved roll-over tops and architectural moulding, while the front features shaped wood with scroll carvings and pronounced scroll arms. Small wheels are fitted to the underside at the front and back. Practical dimensions measure 113 cm high, 157 cm wide and 56 cm deep. The bench functions as a seat within a home, offering an imposing architectural presence suitable for a hallway, spacious landing or living room setting.

FAQs

Settees and benches from the 19th century typically feature dense mahogany frames, detailed scrollwork, architectural panelling, and flame veneer finishes popular during the Regency and Victorian eras.

Frames were constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine core wood, with traditional upholstery utilising horsehair padding, webbing, brass studding, and woven fabrics.

Authentic pieces demonstrate hand-carved details, hand-cut dovetail or mortise-and-tenon joinery, natural age patina on unexposed timber, and dense, heavy mahogany timber.

Place the bench in a wide hallway, foyer, or beneath a window, pairing dark timber tones with neutral wall colours or contemporary textiles to balance traditional proportions.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the wood grain. Vacuum upholstery using a low-suction soft brush attachment to prevent dust accumulation.
