This 18th-century Georgian chest of drawers is made from highly figured yew wood in a warm honey brown colour with a clear polished finish. The design includes canted front corners, two short upper drawers positioned over three graduated long drawers, cockbeading around the drawers, and brass batwing swing handles with replaced mounts, alongside open pierced brass escutcheons and shaped bracket feet at the base. Visible signs of age include historical damage along the front edge of the top. The chest measures 87 cm high, 98 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. In a home today, this piece provides practical bedroom or hallway storage for folded clothing, linens, or household accessories while adding traditional English country house character to an interior scheme. Its flat top surface also offers space for displaying lamps, photographs, or decorative objects.

Georgian chests of drawers typically feature symmetrical proportions, hand-cut dovetailed drawer construction, and decorative details such as bracket feet and brass drop handles.

Cabinetmakers utilised native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and distinctively figured yew wood, often accented with cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, pine or oak secondary timber linings, subtle timber contraction marks, and original brass hardware with oxidisation.

Position the piece against a contemporary neutral wall backdrop, pairing its rich wood grain with understated modern lighting or framed artwork to create visual balance.

Keep the timber positioned away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement, dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying beeswax periodically to protect the finish.
