Eighteenth Century Print Relating To The Holy Roman Empire

£695    $942    €819
A really interesting and decorative eighteenth-century print representing the Holy Roman Empire and titled: con Synoptica Sac. Rom. Imp. (Sacri Romani Imperii). The engraving is the work of Georg Matthäus Seutter (1678-1756) who was one of the most important and prolific German map publishers of the 18th century. It depicts the symbolic figure of an Elector in full robes, covered with listings of all the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, princes, electors, and dukes. At the left is a pillar of heraldic coats of arms and on the right the crown and chair of state. The print is beautifully coloured and in excellent condition. The work is well framed in a period carved oak and ebonised frame embellished with ormolu mounts in the corners. The whole has a huge amount of decorative impact and historic interest. C.1730.
