Description

A superb Victorian walnut Davenport, richly figured, beautifully carved, and offered in excellent antique condition. The pop‑up top opens to reveal a thoughtfully compartmentalised interior designed for papers and envelopes. Beneath, the piano shaped top lifts to the original leather writing surface adjusts to various angles and two small drawers — one concealing the hidden release mechanism for the pop‑up section — along with a pen tray and an ink‑pot compartment.

The front is supported by finely carved uprights, giving the piece a strong decorative presence. To one side is a bank of four dovetailed graduated drawers with turned knobs; to the other, matching dummy fronts maintain the balanced Victorian silhouette. The back is fully panelled and veneered, allowing the Davenport to stand freely in the room.

The walnut has developed a warm, glowing patina that highlights the attractive grain and craftsmanship throughout.
