Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A secretaire tallboy, also known as a chest-on-chest with a writing drawer, is an 18th-century furniture form combining vertical drawer storage with a pull-out or drop-front fitted writing desk surface.

These pieces were primarily constructed using solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, featuring oak or pine drawer linings, brass hardware, and occasionally leather writing inserts.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, original cast brass handles or escutcheons, hand-planed back panels, and period-correct features such as ogee bracket feet or fluted canted corners.

Position the piece as an anchor in a study, hallway, or bedroom, pairing dark timber tones with neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or tailored upholstery to balance classic proportions.

Keep the cabinet positioned away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the timber grain annually.
