Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Louis Philippe furniture originated in France during the reign of King Louis Philippe (18301848), characterised by soft rounded corners, clean lines, subtle ogee mouldings, and understated elegance without heavy applied ornamentation.

These commodes typically featured rich timber veneers such as walnut, mahogany, or cherry, structured over oak or pine frame bodies, and were frequently topped with polished slabs of local French marble.

Authentic period examples feature hand-dovetailed drawer joints, an ogee-moulded top drawer, simple keyhole escutcheons, hand-sawn backboards, and authentic age-related patination on the timber and marble surface.

Position the commode as a focal storage anchor in a hallway, dining area, or bedroom, balancing its visual weight by placing contemporary artwork, ceramic vases, or simple table lamps on the marble top.

Maintain the polished marble surface by cleaning with a pH-neutral cleaner and immediately wiping away liquids, while preserving the walnut timber veneer with a natural beeswax polish applied sparingly along the grain.
