1930s Cyma Stem Winding Pocket Watch and Chain

1920 - 1940
Description

1930s Cyma stem winding pocket watch and chain.

The watch has a good quality Swiss 15 jewel movement, Cyma calibre 919, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged fitted cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and is the Star model made by the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific manufacturer and supplier of cases to various watch makers. The case is in good condition with just light surface marks.

The watch glass has a couple of minor marks

The dial has its original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is a short faint hairline over number 4.

The watch comes with a single chain, 24cm long including the T-bar and the later T-bar.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the interwar era of Swiss horology, 1930s Cyma pocket watches reflect a transition toward functional design, featuring crisp typography, clear sub-seconds dials, and reliable manual-wind mechanical movements.

Timepieces from this era typically feature brass or gold-plated cases, clear glass crystals, and white enamel dials, accompanied by curb-link Albert chains made from matching gold-filled or rolled gold metals.

Authentic timepieces feature maker signatures on the movement and dial, standard calibre stampings, and country-of-origin marks such as Swiss Made at the base of the dial face.

Vintage pocket watches can be displayed under glass cloches, mounted on specialised watch stands, or worn with traditional tailored waistcoats for formal occasions.

Mechanical watches require periodic movement servicing by a professional horologist, careful manual winding without over-tightening the crown, and storage in a dry environment to prevent moisture damage.
