Originating in nineteenth-century France, Animalier sculpture focuses on accurate anatomical representations of animals, particularly dogs, horses, and wild fauna.

These figures were typically created using the lost-wax or sand-casting technique, followed by hand-chasing for precise fur texture and finishing with a patinated surface prior to mounting on marble.

Authentic period pieces exhibit crisp hand-chased detailing around the face and collar, balanced anatomical proportion, natural age-related patina wear, and substantial casting weight.

Positioning a pair symmetrically on a mantelpiece, study desk, or sideboard provides visual balance and introduces classic dark metal accents into modern room schemes.

Dust surfaces regularly using a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the bronze patina, avoiding liquid solvents and chemical polishes.
