Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian compactum wardrobe typically features a raised central section containing drawers and cupboards, flanked by full-length hanging compartments fitted with mirrored doors. Designed during the nineteenth century, this style maximised bedroom storage by combining hanging space, drawer storage, and dressing mirrors into a single furniture piece.

These wardrobes were built using dense solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers laid over pine or oak carcases. Traditional construction methods include hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, solid brass drop handles or escutcheons, and framed panelled doors often set with mirror glass.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-dovetailed drawer construction, and original brass hardware displaying natural oxidisation. Secondary woods such as pine or deal used for drawer linings and unpolished backboards are also standard indicators of period construction.

A large mahogany wardrobe functions as a focal anchor against neutral or deeply saturated wall colours like dark green or navy blue. Pairing the piece with contemporary textiles and streamlined lighting balances the visual weight of the timber while highlighting the carved details.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically to nourish the timber and maintain the original polished surface without creating wax buildup.
