Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An English oak dresser base is a low wooden storage cabinet originally designed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries for preparing food or storing household linens. Unlike a full dresser, it lacks an upper plate rack, featuring a flat counter surface with an arrangement of drawers and cupboards below.

Traditional pieces feature hand-joined solid oak, often constructed with mortise and tenon joints, wood pegging, and hand-dovetailed drawer boxes. The timber frequently displays quartersawn oak grain and is fitted with cast brass drop handles and key escutcheons.

Authentic eighteenth-century examples display hand-planed drawer linings, original timber shrinkage gaps, and irregular hand-cut dovetails. The back panels and secondary timber linings typically consist of pine or poplar, showing dark aged patination.

A dresser base functions effectively as a sideboard in a dining space, a hallway console table, or a low media unit in a living room. Pairing the dark timber with contemporary ceramic lighting, abstract artwork, or neutral linen textiles balances the historical wood tones.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft lint-free cloth to nourish the timber and retain its surface patina. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement and cracking.
