Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tallboy, also known as a chest-on-stand or highboy, is a vertical piece of furniture comprising a chest of drawers mounted atop a lower stand or secondary chest section. Emerging in late 17th-century Britain and popularised during the Queen Anne and Georgian periods, these pieces utilised highly figured burr walnut veneers to provide extensive storage within a compact footprint.

Traditional tallboys are constructed with solid hardwood framing, often oak or pine secondary timbers, veneered with burr walnut cut from walnut tree burls. Key features include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, herringbone or feather-banded inlay borders, brass batwing drop handles, and carved cabriole legs.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-sawn dovetails inside the drawers, irregular wood thickness on drawer linings, hand-cast brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and original oak drawer runners showing age-related wear. Furthermore, genuine burr walnut displays complex grain patterns with fine hairline craquelure in the finish.

A burr walnut tallboy serves as an elegant focal point in contemporary master bedrooms, dressing rooms, or hallways. Juxtaposing the rich warmth of the patterned grain against neutral plaster walls, contemporary artwork, and minimal brass lighting creates a balanced scheme that honours historic craftsmanship.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax paste once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, or moist air to prevent the veneer from drying or lifting from the timber substrate.
