Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

18th-century English pewter plates typically feature plain or reed rims, heavy cast metal composition, and touchmarks from master pewterers. They were widely used as functional tableware prior to the widespread adoption of mass-produced ceramics.

Antique pewter is a metal alloy composed predominantly of tin, combined with copper, lead, or antimony for added strength. Objects were formed using brass or iron moulds before being finished on a lathe.

Authentic pieces bear stamped maker touchmarks, town marks, or engraved heraldic crests directly on the surface. The soft metal retains surface marks, gentle oxidisation, and minor pitting consistent with historic use.

Pewter plates are commonly arranged on Welsh dressers, positioned upright on sideboards, or mounted on walls in grouped displays to add historical texture to traditional and rustic spaces.

Pewter should be washed gently using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners that remove the natural aged patina. Regular dusting with a soft cloth maintains its dark grey surface appearance.
