Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco sideboards feature bold geometric shapes, clean lines, and a focus on polished timber veneers. Designs often incorporate contrasting wood grains, curved bases, and symmetrical door configurations reflecting the modernist movement of the era.

Craftsmen frequently used decorative veneers such as burr walnut, sycamore, birds-eye maple, and macassar ebony applied over solid hardwood frames. Metal or Bakelite handles, ivory or bone escutcheons, and polished lacquer finishes were also standard.

Authentic pieces display period-specific construction details such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass or Bakelite hardware, and heavy veneered panelling. Look for makers marks or stamps inside drawers and examine the patina on the underside and reverse.

Place the sideboard against a neutral or rich dark wall to highlight the contrasting wood veneers. Balance the piece with modern ceramic lamps, minimalist artwork, or a large circular mirror above the top surface.

Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or veneer fading. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly along the direction of the grain.
