Gents 1960s Garrard Wrist Watch.

1940 - 1960
Description

Gents 1960s Garrard wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss Peseux 17-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold plated and it is in good condition with just the odd minor mark, nothing serious at all. The stainless steel case back has a long service inscription from Leyland Cars.

The lens is in good condition (some natural light reflection showing in the photo).

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, Garrard. It is in its original finish with original hands.

Garrards was founded in 1735 by George Wickes. They designed, manufactured and retailed luxury jewellery, silver and watches. The company is still trading today and as well has having their headquarters in Mayfair, London, they also have a presence in Harrods, London, Geneva, Lebanon, Qatar, Dubai, Moscow and Hong Kong. Garrard was the Crown Jeweller of the United Kingdom, charged with the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels from 1843 to 2007.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a Garrard presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Garrard & Co, appointed as the British Crown Jewellers in 1843, produced high-quality mid-century wristwatches often awarded as long-service or presentation gifts. During the 1960s, Garrard cased Swiss-made mechanical movements in gold or steel cases featuring clean, minimalist dial layouts.

Mid-century Garrard wristwatches typically feature gold or gold-plated cases, acrylic crystals, metallic dials with applied baton indices, and leather wrist straps. Internal mechanisms consist of precision Swiss manual-wind or automatic movements.

Authentic pieces display clear dial typography with the Garrard brand name, accurate hallmarks or gold stamps on the case, and maker marks on the movement. Original fitted presentation boxes frequently include the royal warrant print inside the lid.

A mid-century gold dress watch is styled alongside tailored formal wear, suits, or smart casual attire. The simple dial profile and leather strap provide a subtle, classical accent suitable for formal occasions.

Mechanical timepieces require regular servicing by a qualified watchmaker every three to five years to keep internal lubricants fresh. Keep the watch away from water, high humidity, and strong magnetic fields, storing it inside a lined presentation box when not worn.
