This is a rare and fascinating 19th-century mahogany campaign/naval twin pedestal desk, presenting an elegant design and functional features.The hinged, two-part top opens to a plain interior, incorporating a central green baize-lined writing surface and a hinged fall-front section. Beneath this section are two short drawers and six graduated drawers within the pedestal, each fitted with military-style inset brass handles. The desk is supported by plinth bases above bun feet which are later replacements.The refined craftsmanship is evident in the precise alignment of the top’s two sections, which open smoothly and remain suspended just millimetres above the floor without making contact.
