FAQs

Folk art landscape paintings typically feature naive perspectives, charming local scenes, and vernacular architecture created by self-taught or provincial artists.

These works were commonly executed using oil-based pigments applied to rigid panels of wood, millboard, or compressed paper board, frequently housed in turned wood or gesso frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the oil paint, craquelure patterns, substrate composition, framing construction, and historical pigments appropriate to the era.

Such pieces function effectively as focal points on neutral walls, adding historic depth and tactile warmth when contrasted with contemporary furnishings.

Preservation requires stable indoor humidity, avoidance of direct sunlight, gentle dusting with a soft dry brush, and refraining from liquid cleaners on the painted surface.
