Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth, and apply traditional beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the finish.

They make a striking focal point in a home study or living space, pairing effectively with modern minimalist seating to create a balanced contrast between old and new textures.

Authentic period pieces often show hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional wood shrinkage patterns, period-appropriate brass or iron hardware, and distinct wear patterns inside the pigeonhole compartments.

These desks are typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring tambour slats made from thin strips of wood glued to canvas backing to allow flexible movement.

Roll top desks evolved from 18th-century cylinder desks, gaining immense popularity during the Victorian era due to mass production techniques and the need for secure, organised office furniture.
