Description

A magnificent art deco sycamore and walnut chest of drawers, this is of the absolute highest order. It was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this is beautifully made and has a unique design aspect. It is predominantly sycamore, with walnut banded handles and edges. The top edges are beautifully curved, and this stands on a gorgeous stepped plinth base. The top overhangs slightly at the back, which makes it perfect to sit flush against a wall with skirting at the bottom.

It has lovely petite proportions, and contains plenty of storage space. The sycamore has a gorgeous colour tone and contrasts beautifully with the walnut.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent throughout.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical designs, and the use of luxurious materials and exotic veneers.

Cabinet makers typically utilised a solid wood carcase overlaid with decorative wood veneers such as walnut, sycamore, macassar ebony, and burr maple, often accented with contrasting banding and metal hardware.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct construction techniques, such as dovetail joints in the drawer construction, specific veneer matching patterns, and characteristic hardware designs from the interwar period.

The piece works well as a focal storage unit in a contemporary bedroom or living space, paired with neutral walls and minimalist furnishings to let the grain and geometric lines stand out.

Keep wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent veneer cracking or fading, and dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth without using harsh chemical polishes.
