We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Jasperware is a dense, un-glazed stoneware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s after years of experimentation. It is characterised by its matte finish and raised white ceramic motifs depicting classical scenes, becoming a cornerstone of English Neoclassical decorative arts throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Jasperware is made from un-glazed stoneware coloured with metal oxides, such as cobalt oxide for blue tones. The white relief designs are created separately using plaster moulds in a process called sprigging, and then meticulously applied by hand to the damp body before a single firing.

Nineteenth-century pieces feature crisp, detailed white reliefs without excess glue or blurriness around the edges. Authentic items carry impressed maker marks on the base, such as WEDGWOOD in uppercase block letters, often accompanied by single letters, numbers, or three-letter date codes used from 1860 onwards.

Jasperware ceramics function well as accent pieces when placed on traditional sideboards, open bookcases, or mantelpieces. The bold blue colour creates a focal point against neutral backdrops, providing structural contrast when grouped with other historic or minimal stoneware forms.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry brush to clean within the delicate relief areas. If washing is necessary, use lukewarm water with a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive pads that could dislodge the sprigged relief details or scratch the matte stoneware surface.
