Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Aesthetic Movement emerged in the mid-to-late 19th century as a reaction against mainstream Victorian industrial manufacturing, promoting the philosophy of art for arts sake with simpler, cleaner lines and often drawing inspiration from Japanese, Gothic, and medieval design motifs.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring traditional joinery like mortise and tenon, hand-carved decorative elements, incised line details, and high-quality brass or bronze hardware.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct joinery with hand-cut dovetails in the drawer construction, natural oxidisation on the wood and metal fittings, makers marks or registration stamps, and characteristic incised ornamentation rather than heavy machine-moulded carvings.

An antique desk serves as a striking anchor piece in a contemporary room when contrasted with minimalist seating, modern lighting, and neutral walls, allowing the historical craftsmanship and rich wood tones to stand out as a focal point.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood finish without sealing in moisture.
