John Augustus Atkinson "Builders Cart" Watercolour

John Augustus Atkinson (1775-1833) was an etcher, painter and draughtsman. He was taken to Russia in 1784-1802 by James Walker who is thought to have been his step-father. Painted portraits of the Royal Family. On his return to London 1801, he made prints after his works, of Russian subjects, and produced etchings for other artists. He also painted military subjects and battles. A talented painter and printmaker who exhibited widely.
The present work is a pen, ink and watercolour measuring 8''x 12''. It is unsigned and shows a builders cart inscribed ''James Williams'' with a load of coal. It is in a nice old gilt frame giving an overall size of 12''x 16''.
