Description

A wonderful antique mahogany military campaign desk / writing table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

It is very well made and has a very smart design. The mahogany is offset beautifully by the brass details. There is an inset tooled leather top which has gold tooling around the edges and has a small inset brass plate in the centre. This is a very useful size, and is finished nicely on the back as well, so it can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age. There are some small marks and indentations here and there beneath the polish, giving this a wonderful patina.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Campaign furniture originated during the 18th and 19th centuries, specifically designed to be easily dismantled, transported, and reassembled for British military officers on campaign.

These pieces typically feature dense hardwoods like mahogany or teak, reinforced with recessed brass corners, strapwork, and flush-fitting pull handles to protect against impact during transit.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails, patinated solid brass hardware, and construction methods designed for modular dismantling rather than permanent assembly.

The clean lines, rich timber tones, and metallic accents allow these desks to function effectively as sophisticated focal points in contemporary studies, living rooms, or executive home offices.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural beeswax periodically, while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on both the wood and the brass fittings.
