This painting has been professionally cleaned and conserved. The painting is housed in its original frame which has also been professionally restored to my the highest of standards and regilded.

William Edward Webb (1862 - 1903)
William Edward Webb was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in 1862 and lived and worked most of his life in Manchester. He travelled throughout the United Kingdom painting coastal and marine scenes around significant ports and harbours. He spent considerable time in the Isle of Man painting numerous scenes, particularly of Peel and Douglas Harbours. He was also known to have painted scenes in Jer
...sey and Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
His style is described as highly distinctive - loose and informal yet retaining a sense of perspective and great detail.
Personally, he struggled with ill health and depression throughout his life which culminated in his suicide in November, 1903, leaving behind his wife and daughter. ??Webb began exhibiting at the Manchester City Art Gallery in 1890. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy and Walker Art Gallery Liverpool . He was elected an Associate of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 1899. His paintings remain highly sought after and are represented in many collections and Museums including Manchester Art Gallery and the Manx Museum In the Isle of Man.
