Exceptional Pair of 19th-Century Japanese Cloisonné & French Ormolu Mounted Vases

This magnificent pair of 19th-century combination vases showcases the highly sought-after blend of Japanese cloisonné enamel and French ormolu mounts, a style that became popular across Europe during the period. They demonstrate outstanding craftsmanship and a refined harmony between Eastern and Western decorative traditions.

Each vase features a continuous cloisonné enamel frieze around the body, beautifully rendered with birds in a natural landscape, surrounded by trees, foliage, and delicate pink blossoms. The colours are vibrant, and the fine gold cloisons catch the light beautifully, highlighting the quality of the workmanship.

The vases are mounted with ornate French ormolu, including a decorative handled surmount with elegant scrollwork. Twin scrolling handles sweep down the neck to the shoulders, adding further sophistication. The bases are finished with pierced floral skirts and stylised scrolled feet, giving the pair a striking and refined presence.
