Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the gradual introduction of finer timbers such as mahogany following the earlier dominance of oak and walnut.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany and oak for secondary framing, employing hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, solid timber drawer linings, and traditional brass or cast bronze hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting hand-cut dovetails, original timber shrinkage characteristics, hand-planed drawer bottoms, period-correct brass fixings, and natural oxidisation within hidden interior surfaces.

Positioning a period timber chest within a contemporary setting provides a grounded, textual contrast, allowing it to function as a focal point beneath modern artwork or mirrors while offering practical storage.

Maintain antique timber by placing it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, dusting with a dry lint-free cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
