FAQs

Nineteenth-century watercolour art often focused on capturing atmospheric light, natural landscapes, and topographical accuracy with delicate washes and fine brushwork.

These works were typically created using gum-arabic based pigments on handmade rag paper, often mounted and protected behind glass within a wood or gilded frame.

Authenticity is evaluated through paper ageing characteristics, watermark analysis, pigment composition, artist signatures, and the physical construction of the framing or backing materials.

An antique artwork adds historical depth when paired with clean architectural lines, serving as a focal point above a mantelpiece or integrated into a curated gallery wall.

To prevent fading and deterioration, antique watercolours should be kept out of direct sunlight, displayed in stable humidity conditions, and framed using acid-free conservation materials.
