A fine quality oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman. The man is seated and shown three quarter length. The work is very capably handled with some nice details in the chair and the book in his hand. The costume indicates that the piece was probably painted in the 1840�s. The work is not signed although this is not unusual for this type of portrait. The painting is in good untouched condition with no repairs or holes. The work is superbly framed in the original exceptionally good gilt frame which is in excellent untouched condition.
