Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The dress and hairstyle would date the work to the 1860’s. The quality of the painting is superb, created using fine brushwork particularly on the face, which is exquisitely done. The work is not signed this is not unusual for this type of portrait. The condition is very good with a minor piece of old restoration in the background. The frame is possibly the original and is quite unusual with the use of a gilt oval slip surrounded by a silvered outer frame, all in good untouched condition. The whole is a great period portrait with a wonderful decorative presence. C.1860.
