Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in mid-to-late 19th-century Britain, Victorian credenzas are formal storage and display cabinets inspired by French Rococo design. They typically feature a central wooden door adorned with detailed marquetry inlay, flanked by curved or straight glass doors for displaying ornaments.

These pieces were primarily crafted using a softwood or oak carcass veneered in fine timbers such as burr walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Secondary details often included ebonised wood panels, floral marquetry using fruitwoods, and cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail joints, uneven veneer thickness, and saw marks on unpolished backboards. The metal mounts should show natural surface oxidisation rather than uniform modern plating.

Pairing credenzas symmetrically along a long dining room wall or hallway creates a balanced layout. Modern art prints or contemporary mirrors placed directly above the cabinets contrast with the traditional woodwork while maintaining formal proportions.

Apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year using a soft cloth, buffing along the direction of the wood grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber veneers from lifting or fading.
