Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century, characterised by a return to classical symmetry, straight lines, and refined neoclassical motifs such as fluting, rosettes, and restrained carving, moving away from the elaborate curves of the preceding Rococo period.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak or walnut, featuring traditional joinery like dovetail drawers, hand-carved decorative elements, and cast brass hardware including drop handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, tool marks on the interior secondary woods, hand-forged or cast brass fittings specific to the era, and natural wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

A scrubbed oak commode fits seamlessly into neutral, texture-rich interiors by pairing its lighter wood tone with minimalist contemporary decor, crisp linen textiles, or contrasting industrial metallic accents to balance historical and modern elements.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources to prevent timber splitting, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish unfinished or scrubbed wood surfaces.
