FAQs

Georgian furniture, spanning the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, symmetrical design, and the increasing use of imported mahogany as trade routes expanded.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and traditional brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetailing, natural timber shrinkage, uniform patina, and hand-forged or cast brass fittings rather than modern machine-made screws.

Placing a dark wood antique piece against neutral contemporary walls creates a striking focal point, grounding minimalist schemes with rich texture and historical depth.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood grain.
