FAQs

Georgian furniture, spanning the reigns of George I through George IV, is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated symmetry, and a shift towards lighter, refined woods such as mahogany as global trade expanded.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised solid mahogany or oak for structural stability, frequently employing secondary hardwoods like pine for drawer linings and back panels, complemented by cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, timber shrinkage patterns, period-appropriate brass handles, and secondary woods consistent with the era.

Pairing dark timber pieces with neutral contemporary walls, minimalist lighting, and clean-lined upholstery creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the rich grain and historical depth of the wood.

Maintain antique furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting with a soft, dry cloth.
