Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The chaise longue, translating to long chair in French, gained immense popularity during the Victorian era. It served as both a functional resting place and a status symbol in affluent homes, often associated with parlour rooms and fainting couches.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, predominantly mahogany or walnut, constructed with traditional joinery. Upholstery involved horsehair stuffing, coil springs for support, and detailed button-tufting finished with decorative piping or gimp braid.

Authenticity is determined by examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, traditional upholstery techniques, and the presence of hand-turned wooden legs often fitted with brass or ceramic castors. Wear patterns and patination on the wood also indicate age.

This piece works effectively as a statement seating option in a living room, bedroom, or study. Pairing the historic silhouette with contemporary neutral walls and minimalist surrounding decor creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading and timber drying. Regular gentle vacuuming protects the fabric, while periodic conditioning with appropriate wood wax maintains the timber finish.
