FAQs

Early portrait paintings often focus on realism, capturing the likeness and status of subjects using rich, dark backgrounds and traditional oil techniques.

Antique frames typically utilise solid woods such as oak, walnut, or maple, frequently enhanced with hand-carved details or faux-finishing techniques.

Authenticity is determined by examining the canvas or panel material, the ageing of the oil pigments, hand-tooled frame construction, and historical provenance.

Pairing a dark, traditional portrait with contemporary, minimalist surroundings creates a striking contrast that highlights the artworks historic depth and character.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, and clean surfaces gently with a dry, soft brush to protect the delicate varnish and pigments.
