The George III period spans from 1760 to 1811, characterised by a transition from the rococo and chinoiserie influences of Thomas Chippendale to the neoclassical restraint of designers like Robert Adam, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense native and imported hardwoods such as mahogany, oak for drawer linings, and deal for secondary framing, employing hand-cut dovetail joints and solid brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetailing, irregular saw marks on secondary timbers, patination of the wood, original brass backplates, and the presence of shrinkage cracks consistent with age.

Pairing dark polished wood with minimalist modern art, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the period piece.

Maintain timber integrity by keeping pieces away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
