Engraving by J. Brown From alto-relievo sculpture by J. H. Foley. 1814-1898.

Whole-length seated, book in hand, books and medallion of Shakespeare on floor. Original Illustration for The Art Journal, 1858.

Faucit, Helena Saville (1817–1898) was an English actress. Name variations: Helen Faucit; Lady Martin, or Mrs. Theodore Martin. Born Helena Saville Faucit in London, England, in 1817; died at her home near Llangollen, Wales, on October 31, 1898; daughter of John Saville Faucit (an actor); married Sir Theodore Martin (a British poet, translator, and essayist), in 1851.

Helen Faucit played many Shakespearian roles between 1833 and 1866 when she retired from the stage. She emerged from retirement specially to play Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, the play with which the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre opened its doors in 1879. The marble pulpit in the Parish Church of the Holy Trinity, Stratford upon Avon, given in her memory by her husband, has upon it a figure, among others, of St Helen, which is a portrait of her. Helen Faucit retired in 1871.

Original 19th Century Engraving in good quality contemporary gold frame.
