We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Plan chests originated in the 19th and early 20th centuries as functional furniture for architects, cartographers, and engineers to safely store large-format blueprints, maps, and technical drawings flat without creasing.

Traditional plan chests are constructed from durable hardwoods such as ash, oak, or mahogany, featuring robust mortise and tenon joinery, wide shallow drawers, and functional brass or bronze hardware designed to withstand heavy daily use.

Authenticity is identified through construction hallmarks such as hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate timber patination, cast brass label holders, tongue-and-groove drawer bases, and traditional tool marks indicative of pre-industrial or early industrial workshop production.

A plan chest serves as an anchor piece in modern interiors, functioning as a kitchen island base, a statement sideboard in a living room, or a functional storage console in a home office, often contrasted with contemporary art or minimalist decor.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the timber finish.
