Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Iron bedsteads became widely popular during the mid-to-late Victorian era as industrial manufacturing techniques allowed for mass production. They were heavily promoted for sanitary reasons, as iron frames were easier to clean and harboured fewer pests compared to traditional wooden bed frames.

Traditional metal bedsteads were constructed using wrought iron tubing for the structural frame and decorative elements, combined with poured cast iron for decorative corner joints, rosettes, and finials. These components were typically painted or lacquered for protection.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast iron joints that drop onto tapered side rails, forming a sturdy dovetail connection without modern bolts. Look for hand-poured iron mouldings, minor surface irregularities from casting, and historical painted finishes beneath later coats.

Pair antique iron beds with natural linen bedding, textured blankets, and neutral colour schemes to soften the metal framework. Placing a pair of single bedsteads against exposed brickwork or painted panelling enhances textural contrast within modern country schemes.

Maintain painted iron frames by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and wiping down with a damp cloth if necessary. Ensure the metal remains dry to prevent rust, and touch up any flaking paint with a suitable metal-safe primer and topcoat to protect the underlying iron.
