Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A torba is a traditional handwoven, shallow storage bag created by nomadic Turkmen tribes, specifically the Tekke clan of Central Asia. Mounted inside tents or transport animals, these textiles feature distinctive tribal medallions known as guls that signify specific tribal identity and heritage.

Authentic 19th-century torbas were hand-knotted using locally sourced, vegetable-dyed wool on wool warp and weft foundations. The weaving techniques often incorporate high knot densities, braided side tassels, and flat-woven backs preserved for utilitarian storage.

Authentic early 19th-century Tekke pieces display natural, plant-based dyes such as madder red and indigo, soft wool, and fine asymmetric knots. Later reproductions or end-of-century pieces frequently utilize synthetic dyes and possess stiffer foundations or simplified geometric structures.

A Turkmen torba functions exceptionally well as mounted wall art above a sideboard, draped over a bench, or custom-framed as a focal decorative textile. Its rich madder-red tones and geometric patterns add depth and texture to contemporary, bohemian, or traditional interiors.

Preserve antique wool textiles by keeping them out of direct sunlight and maintaining stable humidity levels to protect against moth damage. Professional hand-wash cleaning by a specialist textile restorer is recommended, avoiding harsh chemical detergents or vacuuming with rotating beater bars.
