Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chests of drawers from the 19th century typically feature dense mahogany timber, dovetail joint construction, hand-carved details, and graduated drawer proportions. Many designs from this period incorporated upper galleried or columned shelving tiers to offer additional surface storage and display.

Victorian furniture makers utilised solid mahogany alongside mahogany veneers laid over secondary woods such as pine or oak for interior drawer linings. Hardware usually comprised turned wooden knobs, brass mortise locks, and stamped brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints that are slightly irregular in spacing, original brass or iron mortise locks, and tool marks on the unpolished back boards or drawer undersides. Natural wood shrinkage over time may also cause subtle gaps along panel joints.

Pairing dark wood antique furniture with neutral wall tones creates a refined balance between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalism. Position minimalist ceramics or framed artwork on the upper shelving to contrast traditional timber grain with modern accents.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid wood splitting, drying out, or uneven fading.
