Description

A well proportioned Geo III (Circa 1780) ebonized mahogany chest on chest. (A chest on chest comes in 2 parts for ease of moving whereas a tallboy is in one piece )

This lovely and unusual item is very well made with fine dovetail joints to the oak lined drawers which run smoothly, The inlaid satinwood decorative band below the castelated top molding is a nice feature. Original brass swan neck handles, brass lock escutcheons and iron locks. A working Key fits five of the eight drawers. Original bracket feet, the original drawer dust dividers are still in place. Original boarded back.

Some interesting history found in letters hidden behind a lower drawer which will be revealed to the purchaser.

A good useful and practical piece which would stand well in a hall or large dressing room.
