A trefid spoon is an early form of eating utensil characterised by a flat, broad stem terminating in a notched, three-lobed shape, which gained popularity during the late 17th century.

Latten is a traditional copper alloy similar to brass, widely used in medieval and early modern periods for manufacturing durable household items, including spoons and church brasses.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-specific hammer marks, natural age-related patination, correct alloy composition, and occasionally punch-stamped makers marks.

Historic spoons are often mounted in shallow box frames or displayed securely on specialist stands within study or library settings to highlight their historical craftsmanship.

Preservation requires keeping the item in a stable environment away from high humidity, avoiding aggressive cleaning agents, and preserving the natural oxidisation layer.
