Bronze Sculpture "The Snake Charmer" by Charles Arthur Bourgeois

Circa 19th Century.

The image shows "Le Charmeur de Serpent" (The Snake Charmer), a bronze sculpture by Charles Arthur Bourgeois (1838-1886). It depicts a young African man in a dancing pose, playing a flute. He has feather ornaments and movable earrings.

A snake is at his feet, and he holds a staff.The sculpture is signed "Artur Bourgeois sculp."

It is a posthumous, modern cast. Dimensions: 12.50" height x 5.13" width x 3.63" depth.

Other versions exist, varying slightly in size and patina.
