A serpentine chest of drawers features a distinct undulating front with a convex centre flanked by concave curves, becoming popular during the Georgian period for its sophisticated aesthetic.

Cabinet makers typically utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often complemented by secondary softwoods like pine for drawer linings and oak for structural frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass hardware, timber shrinkage patterns, and tool marks indicative of period hand-planing.

Pair the rich wood tones with neutral wall colours, minimalist lighting, and modern abstract art to create a balanced contrast between historical craft and contemporary design.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping relative humidity stable, and applying microcrystalline wax periodically while refraining from silicone-based polishes.
